Muong Ngoi Neua, Laos

Muong Ngoi Neua is one of those places that made me feel a million miles away from the rest of the world. We took a boat from Nong Khiaw and spent two days in this little humble utopian town. Our private bungalow, riverfront hotels for $5 a night, the all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant on the corner, the simple hikes to caves and lagoons...I can see why someone might just want to escape here for a while.

{The Laotion-style boat we rode in for the 1-hour journey upriver from Nong Khiaw.}

{This is the main road in town that connects all the guesthouses, restaurants, and shops.}

One day, we took a short hike to a freshwater spring where we cooled off for a couple hours. The colors of the blue sky, bright white clouds, and clean green rice paddies are just stunning. The heat was a little intense on the hike, so it was great to cool off in the water once we arrived.

Wow. You're totally winning me over on Laos. What a beautiful, quiet, serene country. We're headed to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam in less than two weeks and are so very excited. If only we had more time...
