Zion National Park

The first major stop on our road trip was Zion National Park. I had heard so many great things about this place and was so excited to go there. It did not disappoint! As we drove into the park, I was in a half-sleepy daze but I immediately perked up when I saw the bright blue sky with scattered fluffy Toy Story clouds contrasted against the bright red walls of rock that towered above the canyon. What a sight!

We began our adventures in Zion with a hike up to Angel's Landing. Take a look at those switchbacks! I was feeling pretty good about my pace until some people passed me running up to the top! Seriously, who runs that!?

Pretty much the whole way up there are signs warning you of the narrow route and steep cliffs and don't worry, they also make sure you know that 6 people have died on this hike. Geez. We just took it really slow and made sure to not look down too often so we didn't totally freak ourselves out.
^^ Eek! The view looking down.
On our second day, we hiked the Narrows. I was also really excited for this hike and looking back, it was definitely one of my favorite memories from the whole trip. Hiking 16 miles in one day and trekking through rivers with slippery rocks is not easy (especially for your ankles), but seeing the amazing, towering, ominous slot canyon walls up-close and personal is an unforgettable experience. Similar to Angel's Landing, we were also glad we didn't die on this hike because there are warnings all over the park about flash floods that can come without notice and pretty much wipe you out if you're in a slot canyon, like you find in the Narrows. We were joking that if we had to summarize our experiences in Zion to two words, it would be: "Didn't die." Haha. We also had a ton of fun and were awestruck by all the natural beauty.

Our last day there, we decided to do a short hike to Emerald Pools, which ended up feeling really long, even though there were tons of kids and people of all ages on this hike. This was probably due to the fact that we were really tired from hiking 16 miles the day before and we were hiking in the heat of the day. It was SO hot! The destination was so-so, but the views along the way were amazing.

^^ Can you believe this massive wall of pure rock!?

Pure beauty in Zion, I tell you. (And some risky adventure too just to balance it out!)
