My Own Backyard

Yesterday, I stumbled upon The Travel List Challenge via Jenna's blog. It's a list of 100 major travel destinations that are meant to judge how well-traveled a person is. (In my opinion, you don't need to travel to major sites or destinations to be "well-traveled", but that's another story.)

As I read through the list, I was surprised to find that I've already traveled to 34 of these places. At the same time, I was shocked and saddened to see that three of these major destinations are within my own state of California yet I have never traveled to them. I've managed to walk through Petra in Jordan and marvel at St. Peter's Basilica in Italy, yet I haven't even made it to these three amazing destinations that are all just a weekend trip away? Hopefully I'll be able to remedy this soon.

Last weekend, Bradford and I hiked to the summit of Mt. Baldy (it's the highest peak in Los Angeles County) and it definitely reminded us of all the inspiring and cool things there are to do and see in California.

Tell me, are there any "travel destinations" that are close to where you live yet you've never been to?

So true. I have been making plans, plans, and plans to go here and there, but there are still so many tourist spots in my own little area that I have never been too. I guess I take it for granted because these places are all but a few hours drive away. I love that photo of Napa Valley. We drove around that area on our way to Castello di Amorosa. It is a castle located in Napa Valley where we went for a little wine tasting. =)

I always feel this way about both California and South Africa! There is just so much to see and do in both of these places that it would literally take YEARS of constant travel to tick all of the things worth seeing off the list!

So cool that you guys hiked Mt Baldy - something on my still-to-do list :)
