Simple Strawberry Syrup
whole wheat waffles. Now, I'd like to share the strawberry syrup that is just DELICIOUS with those waffles, pancakes or even ice cream. This recipe may sound so simple and obvious, but I had never made it before. After making this syrup with strawberries, it has the wheels in my head turning about all the different types of fruity syrups I could make (mango, blueberry, blackberry?).
For now, let's stay focused on the strawberries...
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup strawberry purée (about 8-10 strawberries*)
*May use frozen strawberries. Just put them in the microwave to de-thaw before puréeing.
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and heat until boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and continue stirring until sauce starts to thicken, about 5 minutes. Pour into spouted dish and serve over waffles, ice cream, pancakes, or anything else that sounds good to you.
